Head of IT Operations at SO ENERGY
We are looking for our new Head of IT to join our high-performance team led by our Director of Technology Muhammad Khan 👋. The Head of IT at SO Energy is a pivotal leadership role responsible for ensuring the secure, scalable, and efficient management of our IT infrastructure.
This role oversees the entire IT landscape, from infrastructure and networking to service desk management, vendor relationships, and application support. The role focuses on driving operational excellence, improving service delivery, and ensuring the highest standards of security and system availability.
You will collaborate closely with the Director of Technology, Security Manager and other technology teams to ensure the seamless delivery of IT services for both on-premise and remote staff.
What you’ll be getting up to:

Ensure all systems adhere to cybersecurity best practices in collaboration with the security team.

Analyse service performance and implement strategies to enhance customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.
-
Vendor & Application Support: Establish and maintain vendor relationships, negotiate contracts, and ensure the delivery of high-quality services and resources. Oversee the support and integration of third-party applications (e.g., billing platform, Sales CRM), ensuring they meet performance, security, and availability standards.
-
Risk & Compliance Management: Develop and manage disaster recovery and business continuity plans, regularly assess and mitigate IT risks, and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory standards (e.g., GDPR). Stay current on cybersecurity trends to protect the organization from emerging threats.
-
Documenting and Standardising App Usage: Ensure the business has a documented and standardised approach for the effective use of third-party business applications. Define best practices for application use, such as which document storage solutions to utilise, ensuring consistent, efficient, and compliant use of technology across the organisation.
- Leadership & Strategy: Lead and mentor a diverse IT team, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous learning. Align IT strategy with SO Energy’s broader business goals, driving innovation and process improvements. Manage IT budgets, forecast future needs, and actively participate in the company’s leadership group to influence key business decisions.
Who you are:
- You have proven experience in a leadership role within IT infrastructure, service management, or related fields, with a track record of delivering reliable, secure IT services.
- You possess deep technical expertise in managing both on-premise and cloud infrastructure platforms such as Azure and AWS, and have extensive experience with Office 365, Active Directory, and networking technologies like Cisco Meraki.

- You have hands-on experience with monitoring and alerting systems (e.g., Zabbix, DataDog, New Relic) and are adept at automating IT processes to drive efficiency.
- You are well-versed in network security tools such as firewalls, VPNs, and SIEM solutions and can ensure IT security policies are upheld.
- You demonstrate exceptional leadership and team management abilities, with the capacity to mentor and develop IT staff across multiple disciplines, including infrastructure, networking, service desk, and application support.
- You have strong financial acumen, managing IT budgets and forecasts, and ensuring cost-effective resource allocation to meet business needs.
- You are an effective communicator and possess excellent interpersonal skills, able to engage with stakeholders at all levels of the organization, including vendors, internal teams, and non-technical stakeholders.
- You approach problems with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, taking a proactive stance on risk management, incident response, and system improvements.
- You are adaptable and thrive in environments where you can integrate new and emerging technologies to improve operations and meet changing demands.
- You manage vendor relationships, negotiate contracts, and oversee the performance of third-party services to ensure they align with strategic goals.
- You actively promote cybersecurity awareness and ensure that end-users are trained in best practices for protecting company data.

Your experience, skills and passion will set you apart so tell us about your achievements, irrespective of whether they are personal or work-related, tell us about your journey, and about what you learnt.
