The Role
Propositions & Commercial Manager at SO ENERGY
We are are seeking an experienced Propositions and Commercial Manager, who will report into our Head of Product Development.
Our customers live in an increasingly complex world. Beyond the energy crisis bringing energy to front-of-mind, we are reminded daily of the changing shape of the future, from the electrification of heat through to electric vehicles, smarter homes, and the evolution of clean generation in the grid. At So Energy we have a unique platform to help our customers through these massive transitions – and that’s where our growth strategy and team come together. You will be joining the team that is responsible for shaping and ultimately delivering the new propositions and products that will drive our customer engagement with future energy services. You’ll help set out our evolving services to ensure we’re driving towards our net zero goals, and providing our customers with all the capabilities and opportunities they need to make the most of this exciting and evolving landscape.
What you’ll be getting up to:
Product Development & Management
- Manage product backlog and lead the ideation, development, and launch of customer-centric propositions that solve problems, add value and address barriers to adopting net zero in the net zero transition.
- Manage the scope and definition of the requirements to enable our product, technology, and commercial stakeholders to provide views on feasibility, effort, and costs.
- Oversee the delivery and implementation of new products, collaborating with marketing, business development operations, and product teams.
- Defining metrics and success criteria so we can test-and-learn, while being assured of our path to success and potential pivot points.
- Define value propositions, work with Product teams on customer journeys, and marketing on key messaging.
Commercial Strategy
- Develop and execute growth plans aligned to our commercial strategies.
- Manage pricing models, tariffs, and cost structures for net zero products, ensuring competitiveness and sustainability.
- Monitor and analyse performance metrics, making data-driven recommendations to optimise propositions.
- Feed into strategic decision making for the department roadmap based on industry, competitor, and adjacent market insight.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Work closely with regulatory and compliance teams to ensure all propositions adhere to industry standards and policies.
- Partner with external organisations, such as technology providers and industry experts, to enhance product offerings.
- Present business cases, forecasts, and updates to senior management and key stakeholders.
Customer Focus
- Engage with customers and industry partners to gather insights and feedback. · Conduct market research to identify emerging trends, customer needs, and opportunities for differentiation in the energy sector.
- Ensure all propositions provide a seamless and positive customer experience.
This role will be a great fit if:
- You have an agile mindset: You can manage the transition between ideation and detail, ensuring that we understand cost / benefits before progressing on to detailed plans.
- You are a Subject Matter Expert in evolving markets in the consumer energy marketplace that support net zero. This can include the electrification of heat and transport, decarbonisation and efficiency, and home services.
- You possess exceptional storytelling skills. The way we pitch products and developments internally is as important as the way we market externally.
- You are numerical and logical with the ability to feel comfortable with high-level assumptions and then migrating them into detail. You may not have all the data to hand at the time, but you can justify your hypotheses based on sound reasoning.
- You have a bias for action: An internal balance of urgency and pragmatism which drives you set achievable timescales and not let them slip.
- Strong internal and external stakeholder management: While we are a commercial function, our products affect the wider business and our partners (existing and new) who must be taken on our growth journey.
- You’re not a lawyer: but you’re comfortable reading and interpreting legal documents, and you’re adept and putting together drafts of commercial and operational schedules.
- You’re familiar and comfortable with the retail energy sector and its key commercial and operational drivers. You know how customers engage with domestic energy, and know the fundamentals of how the UK industry operates.
- You’re resilient: Not every idea will be implemented, and not every idea will be successful. You have the ability weather the 'feast or famine' cycle, knowing that the next best idea is around the corner.
