CV DOs and DON'Ts

DON'T
Write your previous experience in chronological order. You should start with your most recent experience at the top of the page and work down.

Include any career gaps. Being vague can hinder the application process but one line to explain the reason will suffice. It shows honesty and clarity.

Use company language or jargon. At So Energy we pride ourselves on communicating clearly and avoiding industry jargon wherever possible

Tailor your CV to the role you want. Align the skills and achievements you include the position you are applying for.
CV Layout
How you present your experience is just as important as the experience itself.
- Achievements - When designing the layout for your CV you want to ensure your best achievements are front and centre.
- Your job history - A common mistake people make is they fill this section with an explanation of what their role was when on most occasions their job title provides enough information. use this space in your CV to tell us what you delivered while in that role.
- Qualifications - Below your job history it's good to provide an overview of your education but don't go too far. Provide the highest level of qualification you have and any vocational qualifications that may be relevant such as CIPD or ACCA.
- Personal information - Recruiters use specialist software called Applicant tracking systems to manage candidates' applications. These systems use tech to scan your CV and create a profile with your contact details and name. This means it's really important to make sure your Name, Email and Mobile number are clearly displayed on your CV.
