The Role
Senior DevOps at SO ENERGY
We are seeking an experienced Senior DevOps Engineer to join our dynamic team at SO Energy, led by our Director of Technology Muhammad Khan 👋. We need a proactive and skilled DevOps Engineer who thrives in a collaborative environment and is passionate about building and maintaining digital products.
As our Senior DevOps Engineer, you will play a crucial role in designing, building, improving, and supporting the SO Energy platform. You should be adept at leveraging modern DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, and agile methodologies, to deliver consistent value to our customers.
Engineering Team:
You will be part of a multi-disciplinary and multinational team, working with a diverse tech stack that includes tools and technologies such as Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, and various cloud services. This role provides an excellent opportunity to deepen your expertise in DevOps practices and enhance the performance and scalability of our systems.
Join our high-performance engineering team: We are developing a robust, scalable platform using a microservices architecture on Google Cloud. Our tech stack features a combination of cutting-edge technologies, and you will have the chance to innovate and improve our infrastructure continuously.
As a fully empowered team member, you will contribute significantly to building our architecture with a keen focus on quality and detail. You will be involved in collaborative coding sessions with your team and participate in our guilds to refine practices and stay abreast of the latest technologies.
Your contributions will help us maintain a low Total Cost of Ownership while expanding our platform's capabilities. Most of your time will be spent working closely with your colleagues, enhancing our infrastructure, and ensuring the reliability and efficiency of our services.

What you’ll be getting up to:
- Design, build and support the public and private cloud infrastructure using AWS, GCP, Terraform & Kubernetes
- Lead and mentor the DevOps team
- Create and drive the DevOps roadmap at So Energy
- Ensuring the availability, performance and readiness of our test and production environments to support our release aspirations
- Maintain and enhance our monitoring and observability stack, ensuring we can provide a real time view on availability and performance
- Work within cross-functional engineering teams to build products and services
- Automate wherever possible
- Deploy new digital products with cloud first strategy
- Balance short-term delivery with building long-term strategic components
- Be a force for innovation and change, contributing to the platform roadmap
This role will be a great fit if:
- Experience with cloud native CI/CD pipelines such as GitHub Actions/Argo/GKE
- Programming experience in a language such as (Java, C#, Kotlin, Go)
- Have experience leading DevOps / cross functional teams
- Experience scripting in a language such a Python, Bash, or PowerShell
- Experience working with and designing distributed systems
- Has worked in an environment with zero downtime deployments
- Has led efforts to build reliability and redundancy into platforms
- Experience with Kubernetes (GKE/EKS/AKS)
- Experience with Infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform/CloudFormation
- Experience with one or more of AWS, GCP, Azure
- Understanding of networking fundamentals (DNS, ports, proxies, etc)
- Experience with security in the context of cloud or networking
- Experience working in a software development lifecycle
- An understanding of DevOps ‘philosophy’
